October 1st is here.. I cannot believe it! Where did September go? Time seems to be going quicker and quicker as we are well on our way into the Fall season!
Fall is a great time of year…my favorite actually! It is also when we transition back into our routines after the splendid summers we all had. It’s time to get back into the swing of things and get ready for another great year of business.
Over the last few months, we here at Brownlow Business Centre have been coming up with different ways to promote the business. We have a few available offices left and we want to have them rented by the end of the fall. Doesn’t seem that difficult does it? Well you would be surprised. One of our biggest obstacles was people not being familiar with us! How can we rent our vacant offices if no one knows we are here and what we have to offer? Impossible. It was clear that we had to get our name out there. We did so by promoting monthly events. By hosting events here, we are bringing people in allowing them to see what were all about. Now we have 50+ people that now know we are here who didn’t before!
Promotion is key to success for small businesses. Here are some helpful ways to promote your business (on a budget)!
In today’s world, customers are looking for you on the web and if they can’t find you – then they move on to someone who they can find online. A website is CRUCIAL and there are plenty of affordable hosting sites where you can create your own, professional looking website. I suggest WordPress, but there are plenty of others: GoDaddy, Ipage, Wix, Weebly. Pick one that works best for you, you want to be able to be found online!
2. Gather e-mail addresses
E-mail is one of the quickest ways to stay connected with a customers and other business professionals. You can create sign-up forms on your website so that customers can stay connected with your business. It’s also a good idea to offer a special offer or discount for everyone upon sign-up. This will give your customers a reason to give you their e-mail and another reason to be open to future correspondence. It’s a fact that existing customers spend more than new customers. E-mail will help build and maintain relationships with profitable customers.
3. List in FREE directories.
There are tons of free listing sites on the web. List your products and services on as many of these as possible. Some will prove to be more profitable than others but with a free posting you are not out any money. Once you find one that works for your business, make regular postings so that your listings stay up-to-date. Free listing sites usually have a section for reviews, so encourage satisfied customers to leave you positive feedback.
4. Social Media
Social media is one of the greatest ways to promote your business, and most of them are free! Sites like Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram & Snapchat are all free and pretty simple to use. You can post anything about your business on these sites: product/service listings, events, special offers, loyalty programs and current news about you and your business. You can reach hundreds, thousands even millions of people through these websites. So make sure you update and maintain these accounts frequently to keep potential customers interested.
These tips are just a couple ways you can easily and inexpensively promote your business. Remember, every business is different, what works for someone else may not work for you. But with these tips, promoting your business can be simple and cost-effective especially when first starting out!
